Hello, we're Hideko and Randy Abernethy, commodore and captain of the sailing vessel Swingin' on a Star. Randy is a serial technology entrepreneur and Hideko was involved in the film industry. We enjoy sailing and love traveling and the tropics. We were married in Bora Bora on September 18th, 2005 and left for a trip around the world in October of 2006.

Roq is aboard with us. He is principally responsible for making sure that no food goes to waste and scaring off the dinghy thieves (don't tell anyone he's deaf as a door nail). Roq had cruciate ligament replacement surgery but he gets around pretty

When we set out we had many goals. To see the world and to get to know the places, the people and the politics that make up our rapidly shrinking planet. To develop complete self reliance and new skills in areas such as sail-craft, languages, cooking,

diving and conservation among others. We also had a strong desire to visit the untouched parts of the world while they are still untouched. We have spent a great deal of time trying to understand the environment, how it is changing and what we can do to help. We have just begun the journey but already it has surprised us with unexpected challenges and insights.
